2010 International Convention Highlights

Pat Johnson elected 2010-2011 International President
August 14, 2010

Pat Johnson of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, was recently chosen by 260,000 members to lead Toastmasters International in the coming year.

She was elected for a one-year term at the organization’s 79th annual International Convention, held in Palm Desert, California, August 11-14, 2010. Johnson is only the fifth woman – and the first Canadian woman – to lead Toastmasters International.

A Toastmaster for nearly 28 years, Johnson applies her communication and leadership skills to her professional career: She has been a leader in the corporate, government and not-for-profit worlds, and has had many years of experience working with policy and strategic planning. Currently, she is assistant director for business education at the British Columbia Pension Corporation, in Victoria.

Within the organization, Johnson has held a number of leadership positions, including International Director from 2004 to 2006. A member of the Rise and Shine Toastmasters club in Victoria, she has attained Distinguished Toastmaster status, the highest speaking level a member can achieve.

Johnson is passionate about guiding the organization to an even bigger and better future, helping countless more people “go forward in their lives as more effective leaders.”

From the desk of Heath Suddleson, DTM...

Friday, July 23, 2010

All,

We have asked, and TI has delivered.  Below are the times for everyone to meet according to Region.  This includes a time for "Old" Region 7 and another time for the new region teams.

Thursday August 12th, 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm (Yes, that's late at night for some people).  We will meet in the Springs HIJ Meeting Rooms to give a proper Roast of Annelie Weber, DTM Almost PID.  Immediate PDGs, please let me know if you are attending the Convention so that we can plan.  I will serve as Emcee for this event, but you will have all the latitude you need.  Be sure to invite all of the members from your Districts so that they can attend as well.  I am still waiting to hear about catering options for food and beverages.

On Saturday August 14th, after the Annual Business Meeting, the new Regions will meet.

Region 7 will be in Springs HIJ and Region 9 will be in Springs KL.  Both will meet at 10:30 am for one hour.  Yes, this time it's during the day.

If you have special arrangements that you need to have made, please let me know soon so that I can coordinate with WHQ Staff.

Just two more weeks, then we're going to California! <insert Led Zeppelin song here>

See you soon.

Heath

No More Paper Proxies

In the past, in preparation for the Annual Business Meeting, all club presidents would receive a proxy form to be submitted at credentials during the International Convention.

Beginning this July 2010, in an effort to simplify the process, reduce costs and minimize the environmental impact, hard-copy proxy forms will no longer be mailed to each club president.
